Another from the "Last of..." series. The Guelder Rose is a native Irish shrub supporting a wealth of our wildlife. Pollinators are attracted by it's lush creamy white blossoms in the Spring and the Mistle Thrush feasts on its glossy red berries in Autumn. I was struck by it's brilliant final show of rich warm yellows before it's last leaves are blown by early Winter gales. It is the shrub's last stand before the darker days encroach and a quiet descends over the land. This drawing conveys the delicate strength of the Guelders Rose's last stand.
