The Horse Chestnut leaves hang down while it's blooms spike upwards heralding the start of the Irish Summer. They are a creamy white show with touches of pink. The tree was also known as the "candle tree” on account of it's tapering flame-like panicles of flowers.
I love the bold shapes of these leaves and how they droop like hankies when they first come out in Spring before fully extending their long green fingers. They look a little sad at first but then gain strength and fully open their fingers with the warming days.
Unframed on a soft white mount. 15cm x 21 cm (A5) on 80gms recycled brown paper.
